Annie Duke - Living Poker Legend

Annie Duke is more than just a poker legend. She is a woman who has replaced quite a few men at the poker tables at world tournaments. This plain girl with a sharp mind is the product of a family of authors and poker players. Annie Duke has come a long ways since her Columbia University days. In spite of bagging a double major in Psychology, and English, this woman of substance decided to embark upon the warpath in a man's world. In fact, as far as her academics go, did you know that Annie Duke was received a NSF Fellowship!
According to the fellowship rules, Annie Duke went to the University of Pennsylvania for graduation. And study she did, in psycholinguistics, at the university. Later, her marriage to fellow colleague at the university - Ben Duke, changed her as a woman and her entire outlook on life. Ben and Annie Duke took their friendship from the university days to the church and after their marriage, Annie moved on with her husband to Columbus in Montana. A poker pro at heart, it was not before long that the preference for the game overcame her need to study further. It was in the year of 1992 that Annie Duke took up poker playing as a career option full time.
She harnessed the tricks and game plan and moved on with her brother's support, an already established poker player then, who not only gave her a real boost but also introduced her to the world of male dominated poker tables. Annie Duke's true passion for the game of poker largely ruled all that she did from there on. She has in a way redefined the rules of the game and the manner in which women were previously sidelined at the poker tables. Annie Duke makes her own rules on how she wants to be treated and today she is a celeb in her own right.

Every step that she took in her life was poker oriented. Annie Duke did not stop after putting an end to academics; she only meandered along another route. She converted her student life into one of a professional poker player. Legal card rooms at Billings constitute her earliest stance at the poker tables. Her move to Las Vegas was only after she felt that she had derived the maximum out of her brother and primary support in the arena. The move to Las Vegas was with the aim to becoming a full time professional at the poker tables there.
Annie Duke has redefined the way men and women share the poker tables. She has proved that the tables could be used to give men and women an equal opportunity at the game. Her prizes and winnings amply prove her professionalism as a poker player as they have earned her repute as a TV celeb. Her fans derive strength from her story and rejuvenation from her game plans and the newly penned autobiography.
